Job Purpose

Longroad Energy is seeking an experienced Director, National Land Acquisition to provide comprehensive land acquisition support to the development organization.  In this position, the Director, National Land Acquisition will manage and assist in the acquisition of land documents, mineral rights, title policies and other real estate interests necessary to complete the development and financing of utility scale wind and solar projects in the US.  S/he will work with the entire Longroad development team to prospect for new solar and wind sites including researching mineral rights, title issues, environmental consideration and other land issues that could affect the feasibility of development and financing of utility scale projects.  This position will be responsible for managing a team of inhouse and third-party land acquisition specialists leading all negotiations with landowners and managing all aspects of the land acquisition process.


  • Acquire land documents, mineral rights and other real estate interests necessary to complete the development of utility scale renewable energy projects in the US
  • Single point of accountability for land and lease issues associated with development pipeline
  • Partner with development team in markets across the US to analyze new markets and site analysis including investigation of land development criteria and land ownership
  • Oversee the review and resolution of title matters to support financing of projects, including mineral rights, title issues, liens, taxes, and other critical matters
  • Coordinate efforts among landowners, attorneys, surveyors, utilities, title companies, and other key project stakeholders
  • Manage the drafting, abstraction, and execution of agreements including purchase and lease agreements, amendments, easements, crossing agreements, estoppels, subordination agreements, affidavits, etc.
  • Establish network of colleagues, title companies, and brokers
  • Review zoning and other development constraints in conjunction with Longroad’s environmental permitting team
  • Work closely with GIS, environmental permitting, transmission, construction and origination teams to identify potential solar and wind sites
  • Establish and maintain relationships with potential landowners
  • Utilize geographic information to locate and track land development opportunities
  • Identify and secure best prices and terms on property that conforms to business plans and financial objectives
  • Negotiate land purchase contracts and review with outside law firm and in-house counsel
  • Perform other duties as assigned


  • Bachelor’s degree in Real Estate, Real Estate Development, Finance or related field required
  • Advanced degree in Business/Management/Finance/Construction or a related field a plus
  • Minimum of 7 years of real estate development or finance experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of land acquisition/divestiture and development experience
  • Strong land negotiation and contract skills
  • Experience working with and manipulating GIS databases a plus
  • Ability to read and understand legal documents and real estate contracts
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong work ethic and commitment to implementation and execution
  • Utility scale solar/wind development experience preferred
  • Creative problem solver that effectively works across teams
