This position will assist with the operations and maintenance activities at smaller solar energy power generation facilities across a wide geographical area on behalf of Longroad Energy. The Solar Operations Manager will help to coordinate and organize subcontractor activities, site technicians and regional support. Ensuring timely and cost-effective support of all solar sites in the Longroad Energy Portfolio.

Responsibilities

  • Manage portfolio of Distributed Generation (DG) solar sites across the country.
  • Ensure team and/or contractors are maintaining accurate site records of all events and day to day activities.
  • Ensure all documentation is accurately completed in our work order management system.
  • Review monthly reports and identify/question abnormalities, dips in site performance and/or significant events.
  • Assist with preparation for customer monthly conference calls.
  • Assist with tracking equipment warranties and claims.
  • Create and maintain wash and vegetation schedules for all sites within assigned portfolio.
  • Coordinate Corrective Maintenance (CM) activities, vegetation abatement and washings across all sites through existing contracts or RFQ.
  • Aggressively pursue return to service of solar sites by working with vendors and OEMs.
  • Help to ensure each project operates within budget.
  • Recommend capital improvement projects to increase site availability or output.
  • Recommend adjustments to part inventory levels to increase uptime as required.
  • Assist with creating, reconciling approved out of scope activities against contractor invoices.
  • Assist with planning, tracking and managing special projects.  
  • Attend meetings as a company representative as required.
  • Assist with compiling data and/or research for reports and presentations as required.
  • Perform additional tasks as directed by management team.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 2-4-year college degree or comparable work experience and training
  • Highly competent in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel
  • Experience in renewable energy industry

Job Purpose

The Development Director in PJM will be responsible for leading activities related to the development of solar and wind projects in this region.  Work will include prospecting for wind and solar sites and due diligence to support M&A, negotiating land agreements, acquiring local, state and federal permits and approvals, completing local and state tax agreements, real estate surveys and title work, and performing other development work to support project financing.  The position requires working extensively with internal subject matter experts to support origination, legal, interconnection, wind resources, environmental and permitting, construction planning, government affairs, engineering and finance activities throughout the development lifecycle.  You will assist the Chief Development Officer to update the company’s PJM market plans.

Responsibilities

  • Work with senior management to achieve the market plan by evaluating project pipeline, assessing project viability / economics and providing guidance to internal and external members of the development team.
  • Coordinate with our environmental / permitting team for permitting requirements such as wildlife and impact studies. Manage outside consultants’ budgets and scope, work with local and state permitting agencies to ensure compliance with permitting requirements.
  • Meet with landowners, and community stakeholders to establish a positive, long-term relationship with host communities.
  • Work with wind and solar resources teams to install data gathering equipment and perform a thorough site assessment for wind and solar energy projects. This includes collection of wind and solar data, project layouts, geographical analysis and turbine design recommendations.
  • Assist origination team with analyzing off-take, developing revenue plans and submissions to corporate, utilities and municipal requests for proposals.
  • Work with the financial and commercial team to create and manage the financial project model. Lead and assist in any sales origination, negotiation and execution of the PPA.
  • Partner with the engineering and construction teams to assist in project scoping, budgeting and management.
  • Ensure project milestones are met through the development process. This includes compiling and organizing data for presentation to the investment committee to assess development risk versus spending at various stages of the project’s life.
  • Continue to build the project pipeline and manage multiple projects.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years managing multiple development projects in a planning, environmental, legal, finance or engineering capacity. 5 – 7 years of experience preferred. Projects should be in renewable energy development.
  • College degree required.
  • Possess subject matter expertise in a business function related to the development process.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong negotiation and presentation skills.
  • Ability to create forms, letters and fundamental spreadsheets using MS Word and Excel. Ability to create presentations in PowerPoint.  Ability to perform internet-based research.

  • Must be able to walk over undeveloped land unassisted, travel unassisted and sit at a computer for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends to attend meetings and community events. 30-50% travel in region will be required during business hours in support of the position responsibilities.

Job Purpose

The Director, Transmission Engineering is responsible for leading technical matters in supporting interconnection efforts associated with Longroad’s wind, solar, and storage projects, performing or managing analysis on the transmission system to identify interconnection capacity for potential projects, and leading the company through the necessary transmission and interconnection processes of utilities and ISO’s.  The position requires extensive knowledge of wind, solar, and storage modeling and will require managing modeling consultants to meet utility and other commercial requirements.  Longroad is active in multiple ISO/RTO’s as well as in bilateral markets across the country, with multiple projects at various stages of development.

Responsibilities

  • Experience solving complex technical, modeling problems
  • Lead communication and build relationships with utilities/ISOs and track interconnection progress to ensure projects are complete in a timely and cost-effective manner
  • Coordinate with internal and/or external resources to prepare preliminary project designs, interconnection applications and supporting documentation for Longroad’s projects throughout North America
  • Understand modeling of wind, solar and energy storage projects in PSLF, PSS/E and PSCAD, manage modeling in coordination with vendors and consultants
  • Experience working with third party engineers to support project financing
  • Perform or coordinate performance of energy loss estimates, reactive capability studies, and other technical characteristics to meet grid performance requirements
  • Evaluate transmission and interconnection tariffs, costs, timelines, queue, and processes for a variety of markets and provide strategy to the cross-functional development team
  • Support flexible, opportunistic approach to prospecting for new sites by identifying interconnection locations in target markets to maximize value across competing priorities for interconnection, resource, permitting, development, land, and EPC
  • Manage and/or perform power flow, deliverability, curtailment and LMP studies in collaboration with engineers and/or consultants
  • Track changes to interconnection tariffs and key transmission upgrades in target markets
  • Support development and project finance as needed
  • Provide preliminary interconnection cost estimates, study cost and schedule estimates, in support of development plans and perform technical due diligence on acquisition targets
  • Coordinate negotiation of interconnection agreements with Longroad’s EPC, development, permitting, finance, and treasury groups

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience in interconnection, project development, or transmission planning at a utility, ISO/RTO, consulting firm, or project developer
  • Practical experience with PSS/E, GE PSLF or similar tools required
  • Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in power systems engineering or equivalent required
  • Ability to operate with minimal direction, set priorities, and exercise independent judgment
  • Flexible and cooperative self-starter with proven ability to work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 

Desired/Preferred Qualifications
