Job Purpose

The Director, Asset Management has overall responsibility and accountability for the financial performance and compliance of a portfolio of operating wind and solar projects.

Responsibilities

  • Work cross-functionally with operations, engineering, finance and accounting to achieve the financial objectives of the portfolio
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of a diverse set of assets, identifying critical performance improvements and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and contractual obligations
  • Manage and ensure compliance with all operating project regulatory requirements, including with state-specific regulatory agencies, balancing authorities/ISOs and local taxing authorities
  • Serve as the commercial lead on key project negotiations
  • Present and own financial results to asset owner and other key project stakeholders
  • Identify, analyze and implement operational, financing and contractual enhancements to improve financial performance
  • Develop annual budget and lead monthly review process to ensure adherence to plan
  • Partner with Development and Finance to advance development projects
  • Deliver monthly reports of project performance to key project stakeholders
  • Identify new business opportunities to help grow the asset management and operations portfolio under management
  • Maintain relationships with counterparties and resolve all contractual disputes for assigned portfolios, communicating such disputes to internal and external parties where appropriate

Minimum Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, engineering, business or related field, master’s degree preferred
  • 5 years industry relevant experience, including knowledge and experience working with accounting, finance, and operations of energy projects
  • Excellent qualitative and quantitative analytical skills to identify and solve a wide range of business problems 
  • Strong knowledge of accounting concepts, financial reporting and metrics
  • Strong demonstrated ability working cross functionally
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with internal groups and external parties
  • Must be able to travel and work irregular work hours, including overtime as required

This position is intended to be a critical part of Longroad’s rapidly growing energy storage business.  The Manager, Energy Storage will be in the center of the execution of commercial, technical, and business development activities for Longroad’s energy storage business.  The position requires in-depth knowledge of energy storage technology and familiarity with the business case and risks associated with energy storage project deployment. Experience at a battery OEM, inverter OEM, energy storage integrator, BESS developer or EPC/consultant with energy storage expertise is important for fulfilling the requirements of this position.

Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will be effective at working cross-functionally within Longroad as well as with outside vendors and stakeholders.  Most frequently, the position will work closely with Longroad’s development, origination and operations teams.

Development

  • Work closely with the company’s project development team in early-stage prospecting by providing storage expertise in market assessment and optimal site identification.
  • Support later stage development through site evaluation and dimensioning/dispatch modeling of BESS and hybrid BESS/renewable systems.
  • Engage and lead efforts with third party consultants as needed to provide incremental analytical value.

Origination

  • Support the origination team in RFP responses for BESS projects with regard to BESS technical aspects – dimensioning, use cases, etc.
  • Work collaboratively between internal origination and finance teams along with external supply vendors to appropriately specify project requirements for quoting.
  • Be a key interface with suppliers of energy storage systems in the design, bidding and execution of energy storage projects including reviewing supplier proposals and driving a deep understanding of supplier offerings.
  • Support PPA negotiations as a BESS subject matter expert to properly align terms with financing requirements and supplier proposals.

Operations

  • Collaborate with the company’s EPC team as well as other in-house and external functional experts during project execution to help manage.
  • Ongoing engagement with energy storage vendors to ensure compliance with all contract requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 3 years of experience at an energy storage manufacturer or within the energy storage supply chain, at a consultancy specializing in energy storage or with a project developer involved in designing and deploying standalone or paired energy storage systems
  • Candidates must have a solid grasp of both the technical and commercial aspects of energy storage technology 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Ability to travel up to 25%
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, economics, mathematics, physics, computer science or a related field

Desired/Preferred Qualifications

  • 5 years of experience in the energy industry in a technical sales, engineering or operational role; renewable energy experience is preferred
  • Experience interfacing with utilities, ISOs, etc. to ensure energy storage systems, inverters, control systems, etc. meet interconnection requirements
  • Experience negotiating supply and operating agreements for energy storage systems desirable
  • Specific experience in energy storage system project design, sizing and/or construction

The Solar Operations Engineer will be responsible for improving the energy generation and reliability of a portfolio of distributed and utility scale solar and integrated energy storage plants. This position will be the primary technical lead on a team of asset managers, technicians, operations managers and other engineers tasked with the common goal of maximizing safety and project performance.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage corrective and preventive operations and maintenance programs for solar and storage systems.
  • Coordinate with performance engineers to develop and implement monitoring algorithms to detect project under-performance.
  • Develop troubleshooting guides and coordinate with on-site technicians to correct failures across all levels of the projects, including balance of plant and battery storage systems.
  • Lead the root cause analysis and remediation plans for defective equipment, enhance the design of problematic parts to improve reliability.
  • Establish and manage relationships with service providers and operations teams to perform repair work.  Ensure relevant standards are implemented for the successful return to service of repaired units in accordance with design and supplier standards.
  • Identify and manage projects to maximize plant performance, safety, and reliability.
  • Identify and manage plant repowering and capacity expansion projects.
  • Support asset management teams to ensure compliance with all aspects of contractual requirements.
  • Be knowledgeable of, and conduct work actions in compliance with industry standards for safety, quality and environmental protection.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 3 years of experience working directly with solar assets in a design or operations capacity.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience with solar performance monitoring and data platforms.
  • Experience with SQL, Excel and other technical software.
  • Ability to travel to solar sites up to 20% of the time.

Desired/Preferred Qualifications

  • Master of Science degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Knowledge of the National Electrical Code.
  • Knowledge of battery energy storage systems.
  • Experience in Python, R or similar programming language.
  • Experience troubleshooting SCADA and networking systems.

  • Experience with reliability analysis.
  • Extensive knowledge of failure modes, troubleshooting techniques, and other characteristics of industry common transformers, switch gear, inverters, photovoltaic modules and other plant components.

Reporting to Vice President, Legal, this position will provide legal support in furtherance of Longroad’s business strategy to develop and operate wind and solar energy and storage projects in the United States.  The Commercial Counsel will review, draft and negotiate various agreements and documentation with respect to development, real estate, title work, supply agreements, procurement, construction, and asset management/operations.  In such role, the attorney will support Longroad’s development, construction, operations and finance teams by reviewing site control opportunities, securing land rights, negotiating equipment procurement agreements, transmission service and interconnection agreements, PPAs (Power Purchase Agreements) and REC agreements, consulting contracts, EPC agreements and O&M and warranty agreements.  This position will be responsible for foreseeing and protecting the Company against legal risks and is expected to rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

Responsibilities

  • Negotiate and draft commercial contracts, including, but not limited to, NDAs, LOIs, consulting agreements, PPAs, EPC agreements, site leases, shared facilities agreements, purchase and sale agreements, procurement and sale contracts, purchase orders, master services agreements, task orders, O&M and asset management agreements
  • Coordinate with project development team to ensure project development documents are financeable
  • Advise project teams on negotiations with various project stakeholders (e.g. landowners, regulatory agencies, governmental decision-makers, title companies, service providers, suppliers, etc.)
  • Assist with VP, Legal and Transaction Counsel with various financing and M&A transactions
  • Maintain and continuously improve standard form agreements, where applicable; such as option agreements, leases, term sheets, EPC agreements, services agreements, O&M and asset management agreements and related form contracts
  • Manage outside counsel
  • Coordinate efforts with other corporate legal and senior management staff regarding corporate and project requirements to ensure maximum value and appropriate risk management
  • Identify critical project risk issues and make recommendations
  • Cross-team collaboration and coordination of legal workload with colleagues
  • Work as a team and as an effective manager of resources, both internal and external

Minimum Qualifications

  • Law degree required (J.D.) and must be admitted in a U.S. jurisdiction to practice law
  • 4+ years of related legal experience
  • Proven track record of strong negotiation skills and risk assessment and due diligence skills
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and work successfully in a dynamic team environment.
  • Proficient in Windows environment, MS Office, Outlook, Excel; technically savvy
  • Must be able to work irregular work hours occasionally

Desired/Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience negotiating commercial transactions in the power or renewable space
  • Familiarity in some of the following areas preferred: real estate, project finance, joint ventures, energy transmission, interconnection agreements, local government permitting, negotiation of tax abatement agreements and special use permits, NDAs and other IP matters
  • Familiarity with construction issues, including with respect to supply and warranty matters, mechanics’ liens, lien waivers, bonds, health and safety matters, permit compliance, and decommissioning
  • Experience as in-house counsel preferred but not required.  Training with top tier law firm preferred
  • Ability to identify risks and propose solutions to mitigate risks
