Job Purpose

The Director, Asset Management has overall responsibility and accountability for the financial performance and compliance of a portfolio of operating wind and solar projects.

Responsibilities

  • Work cross-functionally with operations, engineering, finance and accounting to achieve the financial objectives of the portfolio
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of a diverse set of assets, identifying critical performance improvements and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and contractual obligations
  • Manage and ensure compliance with all operating project regulatory requirements, including with state-specific regulatory agencies, balancing authorities/ISOs and local taxing authorities
  • Serve as the commercial lead on key project negotiations
  • Present and own financial results to asset owner and other key project stakeholders
  • Identify, analyze and implement operational, financing and contractual enhancements to improve financial performance
  • Develop annual budget and lead monthly review process to ensure adherence to plan
  • Partner with Development and Finance to advance development projects
  • Deliver monthly reports of project performance to key project stakeholders
  • Identify new business opportunities to help grow the asset management and operations portfolio under management
  • Maintain relationships with counterparties and resolve all contractual disputes for assigned portfolios, communicating such disputes to internal and external parties where appropriate

Minimum Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, engineering, business or related field, master’s degree preferred
  • 5 years industry relevant experience, including knowledge and experience working with accounting, finance, and operations of energy projects
  • Excellent qualitative and quantitative analytical skills to identify and solve a wide range of business problems 
  • Strong knowledge of accounting concepts, financial reporting and metrics
  • Strong demonstrated ability working cross functionally
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with internal groups and external parties
  • Must be able to travel and work irregular work hours, including overtime as required
  • Strong time management skills with ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Expected to be equally comfortable managing the commercial, financial, compliance and operational needs of the project

The Solar Operations Engineer will be responsible for improving the energy generation and reliability of a portfolio of distributed and utility scale solar and integrated energy storage plants. This position will be the primary technical lead on a team of asset managers, technicians, operations managers and other engineers tasked with the common goal of maximizing safety and project performance.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage corrective and preventive operations and maintenance programs for solar and storage systems.
  • Coordinate with performance engineers to develop and implement monitoring algorithms to detect project under-performance.
  • Develop troubleshooting guides and coordinate with on-site technicians to correct failures across all levels of the projects, including balance of plant and battery storage systems.
  • Lead the root cause analysis and remediation plans for defective equipment, enhance the design of problematic parts to improve reliability.
  • Establish and manage relationships with service providers and operations teams to perform repair work.  Ensure relevant standards are implemented for the successful return to service of repaired units in accordance with design and supplier standards.
  • Identify and manage projects to maximize plant performance, safety, and reliability.
  • Identify and manage plant repowering and capacity expansion projects.
  • Support asset management teams to ensure compliance with all aspects of contractual requirements.
  • Be knowledgeable of, and conduct work actions in compliance with industry standards for safety, quality and environmental protection.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 3 years of experience working directly with solar assets in a design or operations capacity.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience with solar performance monitoring and data platforms.
  • Experience with SQL, Excel and other technical software.
  • Ability to travel to solar sites up to 20% of the time.

Desired/Preferred Qualifications

  • Master of Science degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Knowledge of the National Electrical Code.
  • Knowledge of battery energy storage systems.
  • Experience in Python, R or similar programming language.
  • Experience troubleshooting SCADA and networking systems.
  • Experience in solar system design.
  • Experience with reliability analysis.
  • Extensive knowledge of failure modes, troubleshooting techniques, and other characteristics of industry common transformers, switch gear, inverters, photovoltaic modules and other plant components.
