Location: Boston, MA or San Francisco, CA

Job Purpose:

This position will be responsible for the design and implementation of the HR infrastructure for this start-up venture.  The HR Manager will work closely with Longroad’s management team to develop and implement the Human Capital strategy for this new and growing company.  Initially, the position will involve building the fundamentals and getting the basics in place.  The HR Manager will be responsible for negotiating benefit offerings, developing basic employee policies and procedures, establishing a compensation strategy and implementing other core HR programs.  Over the longer term, the position will oversee the human resources and administrative functions for the organization.  The HR Manager will be responsible for all of the HR and administrative functions including payroll, compensation and benefits, recruiting, administration, leadership development, training, employee relations, facilities and office management.  


  • Responsible for payroll and benefits administration
  • Manage the recruitment process including interview and selection
  • Prepare offer letters, conduct background checks and references
  • Onboard new employees and conduct New Hire orientation
  • Exit Interviews when necessary
  • Oversee compliance with all HR and ERISA programs
  • Immigration processing and compliance (Work Authorizations, Visas, I9s, etc.)
  • Manage office and facilities function
  • Maintain HR Policies and Employee Handbook
  • Oversee performance management programs (performance reviews, goals, PIPs)
  • Manage Employee relations
  • Manage the Travel and Entertainment Policies

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 10 years of related work experience in Human Resources
  • Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in the area of human resources, compensation and benefits and employee relations
  • Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in the area of employment law in the US
  • Display initiative and accept responsibility for actions with little to no supervision
  • Attention to detail and highest quality of work standards
  • Effectively utilize available and relevant technical tools and resources (e.g., Microsoft Office, other software and/or hardware, HRIS, Payroll, etc.)
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. Able to explain complex and strategic concepts among diverse audiences, including other executives and external parties
  • Perform assigned tasks with reliability, honesty and discretion
